On December 14th, Krishna Club, a York University-based outreach program, facilitated another food for life distribution program to downtown homeless shelters. Volunteers prepped, cooked and packed 100 bio-degradable take-out containers with vegetarian meals (prasadam) and then transported everything downtown and personally handed meals out to the homeless on the street.
While some of the volunteers distributed food containers, other devotees helped by performing harinama-sankirtana (chanting on the streets) and distributing the Hare Krishna maha mantra.
The youth of ISKCON Toronto, the Hare Krishna Temple, aim to continue this duty of Vedic hospitality with a monthly Food for Life program starting in 2009. These events will occur on the last Sunday of every month and all bhoga/monetary sponsorships are welcome.
