The holiest month of Kartik or Damodar is from October 21st -November 18th this year. It is a great opportunity, for new and seasoned bhakti practitioners alike, to dive a little deeper into their spiritual practices. As per Vedic texts, any devotional activity done during this month has its benefits multiplied a thousand-fold.
Lord Krishna is known for His sweet childhood pastimes and it is in this month that He performed many amazing feats- from liberating ghoulish demons to allowing Himself to be roped tightly by His mother, Yashoda. Several festivals also fall within this auspicious month including Diwali on November 4th and Govardhan Puja on November 5th.
Please note that the Temple will continue to remain open Monday – Friday from 4:15 AM – 12:30 PM and Saturday – Sununday from 4:15 AM – 6:15 PM in compliance with the current COVID protocols. A gentle reminder that there is a policy of no lighting of lamps, candles or incense in place. The widespread use of alcohol-based hand sanitizers presents an increased risk associated with open flames.
Each day of this auspicious month we will be connecting virtually to increase our meditation on Lord Damodar, which includes early morning chanting (japa), reading from Srimad Bhagavatam and singing of the Damodarastakam prayers. What’s more- there’s something for everyone! Check out the poster to see engagements for children and adults. The lyrics and English translation of the Damodarastakam prayers can be found HERE.
